Brooke Schofield, the co-host of the well-known podcast Cancelled, has issued a public apology on Tiktok following the racist tweets she posted as a teenager.
The controversy began on Saturday when some alleged racist posts from Schofield’s teenage years circulated online.
In one of those tweets, she, at the age of 16, defended George Zimmerman for killing Trayvon Martin.

The years-old tweets sparked widespread backlash and demands for accountability. Schofield addressed the situation by issuing a public apology on Sunday, stating that:

 

“I just should have known better. Sometimes you have these people that you put on a pedestal, and you think everybody older than you is smarter than you and knows everything, and they do not.”

In a nearly four-minute Tiktok apology video shared by Schofield, she takes accountability for the things she had posted.

 

“I am deeply sorry for the hurtful and offensive remarks I made in the past. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now. I am committed to learning and growing from this experience.”

 

She further added that:

“My parents were addicts, so I was adopted by my grandparents when I was like 10. As is true for a lot of grandparents, they’re a little bit less progressive than a lot of us are now.”

The podcaster has opened up about her family struggles in a few of her videos and tweets, mentioning that she grew up with an unstable mother who has been battling with addiction almost all her life. Brooke Schofield was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona, with her two sisters, Tori Lynn Coates and Megan Lloyd. Schofield’s father’s name is Shawn, and her mother is Fawn.

As per her educational background, Schofield attended Corona Del Sol High School and was eventually admitted to the University of Arizona.
