The whole Hawk Tuah lawsuit issue started after one of the creators of Tim and Dee TV, DeArius Marlow, allegedly alluded to a suit in an October 3 TikTok video. He also claimed, as reportedly seen in the clip, that he would be “dropping a backstory vid” on their YouTube channel to share “all the receipts.”
Apart from addressing the rumors, Welch called the Hawk Tuah lawsuit rumors “Fake news” alongside a picture of her face photoshopped over Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde character.
Hawk Tuah girl Hailey Welch said that if she filed a lawsuit, “it would be public”
After Hailey Welch’s “Fake news” post on X about the Hawk Tuah lawsuit, a social media user by the name of @funkmasterjeffy, commented and pointed out that DeArius Marlow “confirmed” that she had filed a suit against him.
The user also attached a screenshot of Marlow’s comment on a fan claiming that the lawsuit is “just fake news drama for the people who hate her.” Marlow’s answer reportedly reads:
“Not fake news the dropping a backstory vid on YouTube with all the receipts.”
However, Welch made it known that everyone would know if she would ever file a lawsuit against the YouTubers, saying:
“If I sued it would be public but I guess clout is being chased.”
Hailey Welch shared another message reminding social media users that not everything shared online is true. She reshared her “Fake news” with Witherspoon’s Elle Woods picture with her face on it a few minutes later, with a caption that reads:
“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”
Hailey Welch first became an internet sensation after being featured in one of the man-on-the-street videos by Tim Dickerson and DeArius Marlow. The two YouTube creators are known for interviewing people on the streets of popular nightlight destinations. In the video that made Welch viral, she offered a tip that earned her millions of views and the online nickname “Hawk Tuah girl.”
She recalled the aftermath of her viral video to People in September 2024, saying that she “hid for two weeks” because the video “embarrassed her to death.” She also told the magazine, as published in its October 9 article, that she and her friends asked the Tim and Dee TV creators to stop posting other clips from her now-viral interview. Welch noted that the first video wasn’t bad, but the YouTubers ended up posting several more clips.
When she reached out to them, Welch claimed that the YouTubers “ended up blocking” her and her friends. Marlow reportedly didn’t acknowledge her or any of her friends when they reached out to him. She also claimed that Marlow ended up reaching out to her, but it was after she went viral. By that time, Welch noted that she didn’t want to talk to him anymore.
