Why were the Taylor Swift shows in Vienna canceled?
Taylor Swift is currently in the middle of her ongoing Eras Tour, which began last year in March in Glendale and is to end in December 2024. Swift was to perform on the following dates in the Austrian capital- August 8, August 9, and August 10.
Law enforcement officials had, however, announced that they had arrested people for the alleged plot of a terror attack. According to cops, one of the two people who was considered the prime suspect was taken into custody from Ternitz.
Public security director at Austria’s Interior Ministry Franz Ruf confirmed that the primary 19-year-old suspect had pledged being committed to ISIS. In an August 8 tweet, posted by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammar, he wrote,
“The cancelation of the Taylor Swift concerts by the organizers is a bitter disappointment for all fans in Austria…”
During the arrest of the primary suspect from Ternitz, police did a thorough search of his residence. Several houses in the neighborhood were evacuated and searched as well. As reported by BBC News, Ruf confirmed that authorities had discovered several chemical substances which were further sent for examinations. Authorities are still investigating the case to find any further leads.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s fanbase defended the pop star on social media platforms, after the organizers canceled her shows in Vienna. Before coming to Austria, the singer had three shows scheduled in Warsaw, Poland.
While the Vienna shows got canceled, Taylor will continue the rest of The Eras Tour. Her next tour stop is in London, where the singer is to perform five shows on the following dates: August 15, August 16, August 17, August 19, and August 20.
